OSVDPA Phase 1 (Induction)

Description

Course covers the Principles of DP, Elements of the DP system, Practical operation of the DP system, Position reference systems, environmental sensors and ancillary equipment, power generation, propulsion, and DP operations. Course duration is five days, or 32 hours.

Used extensively in the offshore industry, dynamic positioning equipment can be found onboard vessels requiring precise positioning such as drilling, cable and pipe laying, dive and ROV support and FPSO vessels and Jack-up Barges. Dynamic positioning equipment is also used extensively on vessels and units operating in deep water and areas of environmental sensitivity where traditional anchoring techniques are not possible.

Entry Requirements:

The OSVDPA allows entry to individuals who qualify under at least one of the following requirements:

  • Holds a STCW credential as officer in charge of navigational watch (II/1, II/2, or II/3).
  • Holds a non-STCW certificate of competency issues by the United States Coast Guard or an equivalent certificate issued by another White List Marine Administration as listed in the STCW Convention.
  • Holds a STCW credential as Rating Forming Part of the Navigation Watch (II/4 or II/5).
  • Is a Able Bodied Seaman serving on a 200 GRT Near Coastal vessel having a certificate of completion from the United States Coast Guard-approved Rating course, or
  • Is a Cadet enrolled in a qualified Maritime Academy (see Section 16.4.4 of OSVDPA MPP-1-CV).
  • OSVDPA Approval letter

OSVDPA Phase 3 (Advance)

Description

This simulated intense five-day course covers practical operation of the DP system, Simulated DP operations including errors faults & failures, DP alarms, warnings and emergency procedures. Used extensively in the offshore industry, dynamic positioning equipment can be found onboard vessels requiring precise positioning such as drilling, cable and pipe laying, dive and ROV support and FPSO vessels and Jack-up Barges. Dynamic positioning equipment is also used extensively on vessels and units operating in deep water and areas of environmental sensitivity where traditional anchoring techniques are not possible.

This section describes what documents will be required during the application process. 

    1. Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)/Merchant Mariner Document (MMD)
    2. Medical Certificate: (Only if a medical certificate is not found on your MMC).
    3. OSVDPA or Industry accepted logbook(s): Showing Sea Time, Practical Experience, and courses (if required). Mariners may submit their original logbook(s) to the OSVDPA OR you have the option of submitting notarized copies of logbooks and notarized statements attesting to the accuracy of logbook copies in place of the submission of a physical logbook.     4. Must have a minimum of 30 days / 90 practical hours of experience recorded sea time. Phase 2 Task section and Phase 2 Assessment completed prior to entry of the course.
